Paradise Perfume Ad Design

Recently I took part in a three week long design sprint through my online design course subscription. Week 1 Brief: The client requires a compelling and eye-catching promotional composition to promote their new perfume fragrance called Paradise. The Paradise Perfume promotional campaign should aim to capture the allure of an exotic escape—evoking a sensory journey that entices both men and women into the world of temptation and indulgence. This creative photo composition will reflect a lush, tropical paradise where every element feels magical and irresistible. Concentrate on the creative photo composition, using the perfume descriptiion from the client to add contextual details to the final image. Adding any typographic details is completely optional and shouldn't be the focus of the design. Deliverables: * Perfume bottle design and packaging * Promotional poster featuring the perfume bottle used both for print and online * Creative composites that can be used for social media advertisement

The biggest challenge with this project was maintaining patience and burning through AI credits! While AI tools are incredible aids for creating concept mockups much more quickly and easily that it would take to create everything manually, it's still a very finnicky process. You won't believe how many iterations it takes to get the right kind of mountains or clouds or a flower head at the ideal angle. There were also some issues with quality consistency, so some parts of the image would be created with impressive detail but others would be vague impressions of an object, making it tough to integrate everything into one composite image. Even so, I found it really useful to work through these challenges and learn prompt pitfalls and successes, all while feeling excited about the possibilities of what I could create next.

My concept centred on the idea of a paradise being like an oasis in the desert. I wanted the final visuals to look as appealing as a glass of water after trecking through a dry, unforgiving land. I started by sketching ideas for the perfume bottle shape. I then used the revolve tool in Illustrator to create a 3D model for the bottle. For the enviroment, I again sketched out ideas for tropical composition (just using rough shapes to get positions right) and then used the sketches and models as my composition references in the AI tools to build out initial oasis concepts. Once I had achieved an initial concept, I would go into photoshop and refine it more myself. After that I would somtimes bring it back into an AI tool (Krea or Firefly) to add in other elements, expand the canvas or improve the quality and textures. This was a hugely iterative process, so I had to rinse and repeat that for a while to keep refining things and eliminate odd AI artifacts that would pop up. Once I had something I was mostly happy with I would open up Photoshop again to refine lighting, refine depth of field, and add in some more specific, smaller elements using generative AI.

I'm happy with how these concepts have turned out for the most part. If this were for a real client it would be a great way to show a vision without putting in an extreme amount of effort (it still took long enough that it didn't feel "quick"). I plan to refine these concepts further by creating more detailed versions, where there are beads of water on the perfume bottles. I also want to see what it looks like with some alternative bottle shapes. Finally, I want to play around with the scenes more to improve the greenery and make it more lush and improving the lighting to add more emphasis to the bottle. After that, I'll mock the ideas up as part of a social media and outdoor advertising campaign to get really creative with combining different elements and seeing how much the design can be stripped back while still being persuasive and eye-catching. I think the concept would work quite well as a video ad as well.
